Helen is an artist with a difference – she recycles other peoples’ rubbish. Helen’s work is based upon making use of old metal objects whether they be old farming implements that technology has made redundant or just pieces of old cars, bikes etc that don’t work. She takes them and makes them into an “objet d‘arts” that are fun, interesting and functional. Take our cellar dog for example. He does not bite customers, lift his leg on their car’s tyres or keep his owner’s poor trying to feed him!
Helen can turn old stirrups, car jacks, carriage springs into candle holders and plough disks into birdbaths!
42 year old Tony has lived in the Rutherglen area for the majority of his life. He took his first photo at the ripe old age of 8. Tony is the youngest in his family and haas three sisters and one brother. His parents moved to Rutherglen from the Tarcutta area of New South Wales in 1951 when they purchased “Yoothamurra” a 400 hectare (1000 acre) farm about 12 kilometers west of Rutherglen. Tony grew up at Yoothamurra, traveling to school in Rutherglen by bus. After leaving school early Tony worked at various jobs including farm hand, feed mill worker, interstate truck driver, welder, fencer and more. During this time he was able travel and took off to see this great country of ours. In 1992, after the death of his father Tony took over the running of the family farm. In 2005 he decided to take a “sabbatical” from the farm to give him time to pursue his interest in photography. Tony now lives in Melbourne. The photographs he presents at Jones Winery & Vineyard are some of the first he has released. Some have been shot recently and some are from his early work. His work reflects the countryside that he so obviously loves! |
